¿ Kultur?Die Scottish National Party ( SNP) ist eine linksgerichtete Partei, die sich die Unabhängigkeit Schottlands als Ziel gesetzt hat. Sie wurde 1932 gegründet, hatte aber zunächst wenig Erfolg bei den Wählern. Bei der zweiten Parlamentswahl 1974 gewann sie dann 30 % der Stimmen in Schottland. 1997 schloss sich die Partei mit denLiberal Democrats und der Labour Party zusammen und gemeinsam gewannen sie einen Volksentscheid für die devolution - Dezentralisierung Schottlands. Am 11. September 1997 entschieden sich die Schotten durch ein Referendum für ein eigenes Parlament, nachdem sie fast 300 Jahre darauf verzichten mussten. Das neue Scottish Parliament besteht aus 129 Abgeordneten und kann Gesetze erlassen und Steuern erheben.
